While residing in the divine land of Vrindavana, Sri Krishna performed sweet, childlike pastimes—herding calves, playing with His cowherd friends, and delighting the hearts of the Vraja-vasis. Though He is the Supreme Lord, He moved among them as an innocent child, completely covered by His sweetness.
Seeing this, Brahma, the creator of the universe, became doubtful. How could the Supreme Lord of all creation behave like a simple cowherd boy? To test Krishna’s divinity, Brahma used his mystic power to steal the calves and cowherd boys, hiding them from the vision of the world.
Sri Krishna, fully aware of Brahma’s actions, did not disturb the loving mood of Vrindavana. Instead, He expanded Himself into exact replicas of the missing calves and boys. For an entire year, life in Vraja continued joyfully. Mothers felt deeper affection for their children, cows overflowed with love for their calves—because unknowingly, they were embracing Krishna Himself in every form.
When Brahma returned, he was struck with astonishment. Before him appeared countless forms of Krishna, each radiant and divine, each being worshipped by infinite universes. In that moment, Brahma realized his grave mistake. His pride as the creator shattered.
Overwhelmed with humility, Brahma fell at the feet of Sri Krishna, offering prayers filled with repentance. He confessed that even his exalted position could not grant him the fortune possessed by the residents of Vrindavana. He glorified the gopas, gopis, cows, and even the dust of Vraja, declaring their devotion superior to all knowledge, power, and cosmic authority.
Sri Krishna, ever compassionate, forgave Brahma. Through this lila, He revealed a profound truth: He is conquered not by status or intellect, but by pure, selfless love.
🌼 Reflection
These chapters reveal the heart of Vrindavana.
Here, love surpasses knowledge, humility defeats pride, and the Supreme Lord willingly becomes a child to taste devotion. Even Brahma learns that the simplest love offered without calculation is the highest treasure.
The Lord who creates universes bows before the love of His devotees.
